Safer Gambling Aotearoa

About the minimising gambling harm programme

Health Promotion, National Public Health Service Te Whatu Ora has developed a programme of work that aims to strengthen society's understanding and awareness of, and response to, gambling-related harms through campaigns. The goal of these campaigns is to increase the quality of life of New Zealanders by strengthening society's response to gambling and preventing and reducing gambling harm. The programme also focuses on implementing targeted strategies to change behaviours that place people and communities at risk of gambling harm.

About this site

This site has support and information for people who have a gambling problem, or think they may have one, and for people concerned about someone else’s gambling. It also has facts and figures about gambling in New Zealand.

In mid-2021, we worked together with whānau across Aotearoa to provide the next direction for our minimising gambling harm programme. As a result, Choice Not Chance has evolved into Safer Gambling Aotearoa to better serve the communities around us.
